Geoffrey and his girls arrive

Cockadoodledoooooooo! At 4 this morning our newest resident was awake and letting us know it was a lovely morning and that he would like his breakfast! His request was met by mutterings promptly followed by us going back to sleep for another precious hour.

Geoffrey, our Buff Orpington cockerel, has come from Annie the owner of the feed mill where we get the pigs feed. He was too noisy for her daughter to have where she was living so needed a home where he could crow to his heart content, cue Noggin Farm.

We have borrowed three of Annie's girls to keep him company until our new chickens come in the next week or two, in the mean time he is busy letting everyone know that he is here!

RBST Show

The Third & Final show of the season was the Rare Breeds Survival Trust show. To be eligible for the show the animals have to be a traditional British Breed and to be be on the RBST list of rare species. Again the girls scooped the top three spots in their class, however this time it was Nancy who won the top honours (1st (Nancy), 2nd (Lulu) & 3rd (Milly)) and she went on to be the Reserve Breed Champion - hopefully all these accolades won't go to their heads!

Three Counties Show

Our second show of the season was the Three Counties at the nearby Malvern Showground. As this is a much larger pig show than the Shropshire show each pig competes with other pigs of the same age and breed. This time we took all three of the show girls... and they were placed 1st (Lulu), 2nd (Nancy) & 3rd (Milly)! This meant that Lulu went on to the breed final were she won Reserve Breed Champion and was therefore the reserve qualifier for Lop of The Year from the Three Counties Show!

Open Farm Washout!

Despite our best laid plans, the heavens opened and the rain poured for the whole day of Open Farm Sunday! Fortunately there were a few brave souls who ventured up to the top of the ridge and were thus able to meet some of the pigs, have a guided tour of the farm - in particular the new paddock pens - and to taste our range of Sausages & Bacon. As these were our first Sausages we opted for a selection of flavours: Breakfast; Apple & Cider; Leek; Garlic; Blackpepper; Gluten Free.

Hopefully, they'll be better weather next year!
